Pathfinders April Gathering
Saturday, April 4 at 11am in Room 202
All are welcome to join Pathfinders as we gather for food, fellowship, and discussion on Saturday, April 4. We will meet in room 202 at 11am and eat at 11:30am — please bring a dish to share.
Beginning around 12:15pm, our special guest will be Kimberly Brown, President of the Portland Rose Society, who will share the history that shaped Portland’s legacy as “The City of Roses.” Kimberly will share the fame and role of Portland’s public rose gardens and highlight rose horticulture – how and when modern roses were created, the varieties available today, and the elements for successful rose care to grow roses that thrive and are disease resistant. If you can’t attend lunch, you are welcome to come just for the program. Please RSVP to Harriett Ottaviano with the number of people attending and the dish you plan to bring.
Kimberly Bown graduated from UC Berkeley with a Forestry B.S. and had a 30-year career with the US Forest Service managing our public lands, where she served as Regional Director for various resource programs in the Pacific NW and Alaska Regions, and as a District Ranger in California. As President of the Portland Rose Society (PRS), she is devoted to the encouragement, education, and development of rose culture. PRS assists the City of Portland in maintaining its position as the “City of Roses.” Kimberly also keeps busy as an OSU-certified Master Gardener and as President of the Friends of the International Rose Test Garden, coordinating hundreds of volunteers, deadheading, and leading tours. She is a member of Portland’s Royal Rosarians, an all-volunteer organization serving as the official greeters and ambassadors of goodwill for the city of Portland since 1912. Kimberly served as the Prime Minister in 2020 and was knighted under the rose “Love & Peace.”
